Small Faces - Afterglow (Of Your Love)

Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written, easily the best song by the band. And what a band! Check them out X

Solitaire - Neil Sedaka

Strange though it is, I was bought up on this man, and he was one of the first singers I loved. Strange, I know. This song proves what a very technical musician and great singer he is. I’d like to see him one day.

Trivia: This is the man who wrote “Is this the way to amarillo”.

At the Indie Disco - The Divine Comedy

I Just discovered this guy, he’s brilliant! This is his latest single for the 2010 album “Bang goes the Knighthood”. The divine comedy mix an eclectic mix of styles to form a fusion of 60’s beat with folk, and some really witty lyrics. Some of his work strikes me as being influenced by the Kinks. Check out the album, and his 1996 album, “casanova”.

Enjoy

Surfer blood first came to my attention about a year ago, when I got their single “Swim” on an NME radar mix-tape CD from WH Smiths. I remember it wasn’t a great recording, but the song was catchy, and had quite a 60s feel about it. I recently got hold of the whole record, ‘Astro Coast’, and it’s pretty much shot up into my favorites. Surfer blood combine the 60’s surf rock attitude which you found with bands like the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, with drums and synthesizers that sound like they could have come from Friendly Fires. A great mix of Indie and Surf Rock that just, gets it right. Other favourites from the album are “Flaoting Vibes” and “Twin Peaks”. x

First song of the day of 2011! White Lies are an amazing band who manage to find the perfect combination of rock, post-punk and indie, to create a meaningful and memorable record. Their debut album ‘To lose my life’ was released in 2009, and was followed by a sellout tour. The band’s new album ‘Ritual’, is being released in the UK on the 17th January, so keep an eye out for it. It’ll be interesting to see what they’ve done with their sound since the last album.
